My goal as an educator is to empower and engage life long learners who are able and willing to contribute to their communities in positive ways.
My philosophy of education stems personally from years of experiences outdoors and in classrooms and from a professional focus in outdoor and environmental education. Within that scope I am particularly passionate about critical pedagogy, understanding and utilizing the hidden curriculum, and using constructivism to achieve meaningful learning.
Without real, tangible experiences nothing in the world is real to us. Things become real when we touch them, see them, experience them. That is exactly what I hope to provide for each of the students I teach; chances to engage fully in the world around them in hopes that they will gain the personal understanding needed to later be able to pass those experiences on to others. That is how I believe we can empower life long learners who are able and interested in contributing to their communities in positive ways.
